Why the 30% ruling calls for an explicit calculation

The Dutch 30% ruling has been amended repeatedly in recent years: terms were shortened, salary norms indexed, and the percentage steps back to 27% per 1 January 2027. As a result the question "what does this still yield for this employee" can no longer be answered with a single percentage — it depends on the start month, on prior residence in the Netherlands and on the application date.

This tool computes that explicitly and leaves every intermediate step in place: the remaining term, the number of months at 30% and at 27%, the salary norm applied and the cap on the base. The report states which constants vintage was used — the salary norms carry the 2025 indexation as recorded in the source and are not updated per year — plus a hash that lets the document be verified years later. It is a computational substantiation, not a decision: the Dutch tax authority rules on the grant.

Frequently asked questions about this tool

Which percentages does the tool apply?
One pivot: 30% for months up to and including December 2026, and 27% for months from January 2027. The tool splits the term exactly around that date and shows both month counts. Other percentages or alternative step schedules are not in the calculation rules and are therefore not shown.
Is the calculated benefit my actual net benefit?
No, it is an indication. The benefit is computed as the untaxed portion of the capped monthly salary times a single fixed marginal rate of 49.5%. Brackets, tax credits, social-security contributions and personal circumstances are not included. A payroll calculation remains necessary for the actual net outcome.
What happens with a late application?
The tool starts the ruling from the month of application and shortens the term at the end by the number of elapsed months — those months are permanently forfeited. The number of lost months appears separately in the report, alongside the remaining term.
